Have you ever spent hours searching for a simple, yet powerful song editor? Well, search no further. WavePad is a free software rich with features whether you are cutting out a certain segment or converting to a different file type. I have found several uses for WavePad, but the one I appreciate the most is creating ring tones. Simply open your song with WavePad, select the 30 second segment you would like, cut it, then paste it into a new window (File > New). Finally save your clip after selecting the type of file format that your phone will except. Then upload your new ringtone to your phone… instructions for this varies widely depending on phone and carrier. I will share a couple methods in future posts. Give WavePad a try! What do you use WavePad for? Have you found any free alternatives that you prefer?

In today’s economy, maximizing your every dollar is important. After reading this, you will learn that there are more than one option if you want to sport the look of an iPod Shuffle without the strike against your wallet. While I have an iPod Video, I needed/wanted something that was a big more portable. At the time the iPod Shuffles were being sold for about $80. I felt that this was a ridiculous price for a 1 GB mp3 player, I researched what else was available. I found that while there are lots of cheap players, very few have the clipping feature that the iPod offers. Then I discovered a few ebay sellers that offered a iPod Shuffle knockoff for less than $20 shipped. Most of the sellers were out of China, which deterred my immediate purchase, but then I realized that there are some sellers within the US. This means great price and fast shipping! I have loved mine ever since. Currently the iPod Shuffle sells for $45. A reasonable price, yet it is still worth considering investing in the cheaper counterpart. After all $25 saved in todays economy means nearly a half a tank of gas (for some).

  • Features of iPod Shuffle:
    • - Quality made product
    • - Place iTunes purchased songs on it
    • - Warranty
    • - Headphones included
    • - Built-in rechargeable battery
  • Features of Knockoff Shuffle:
    • - Inexpensive
    • - Good enough quality (already lasted a year)
    • - Headphones included
    • - Built-in Battery
    • - Option to buy 1BG, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB
    • - Music on device can be copied on computer (with ipod you cannot copy w/o software)

Knowing information about your computer is important when you want to get the most out of it. The other day I was attempting convert my computer into a Hackintosh and I needed to know very detailed system info about my PC. Since it is a number of years old, I did not know if it had SSE2/SSE3 technology within the processor. I nearly put the project on hold, thinking that my computer was too old to proceed, when I ran a quick search for a program that could tell me what I needed to know. It would have to be free of course. Enter “CPU-Z.” CPU-Z quickly told me everything I needed to know and more.  CPU-Z even informed me that 1 of my sticks of memory that was capable of running faster than the other. Pretty cool stuff. If you can believe this, it told me that date that I installed the additional stick of memory that was causing my entire system to run less than optimal. Amazing!
