I would look into flashing your router with dd-wrt! It will solve the problem and add a ton of features to your router. There is tons of into on google.
I currently use a flashed linksys router with my Sony. Works great.

I have wrt54g version 7.. there is no firmware for that version.. I just read that this edition is something special.. so it goes from version 6 to version 8… i could kill someone now..

After messing around for 2 hours with a new sony vaio and a linksys wireless N router, the solution you offered was perfect and worked seemlessly – amazing that linsys doesnt post this fix anywhere on their site

I would like to think that Linksys is partially to blame also. The Sony Vaio has been compatible with almost all of the routers I have encountered.
