How to Watch iPod Movie’s on TV

Did you know?
Do you have an iPod Video? If so, did you know that you are $10 away from using your iPod as a DVD player (kinda)? When I found out that I could display my iPod’s movies on the “big screen,” I was very surprised. This feature is not one of Apple’s main selling points for this device, in fact, most people I have met do not even know that it is a possibility. As I understand it, first generation iPod Video devices use the headphone jack to output the video to a TV. Newer ones, such as the 120GB iPod Video Classic, use the docking port on the bottom of the device to output the video. If you would like to purchase a cable, simply perform an Ebay search for “iPod Video AV cable.” Alternatively you can go to a Walmart or Radio Shack and they will likely have it, but not for under $10.

What do I have to do?
Once you have your cable, plug it into your iPod and TV. Then on your iPod go into your video settings and set TV to “ask.” Now whenever you play a movie it will ask you if you want to watch it on your iPod’s screen or the TV.

Don’t have anything worth watching?
Don’t have anything worth watching at your iPod? Give DVD Catalyst Free a download and backup your DVD collection to your iPod Video. This application rips your DVD to a file format which your iPod Video can read. Once you have the outputted file, drag it to your iPod library in iTunes and then you’re done! Now when you go on that trip to the in-law’s house, instead of being bored, you can spend your free time watching movies. The best part is that you won’t look like a jerk walking in their door lugging your DVD’s and player.
