DVD Ripping

DVD Ripping

Backing up a DVD collection can be a very challenging endeavorer. Search Google and you will quickly find that there are many ways to accomplish the task. Unfortunately, most of them are either costly or hit’n miss. I would like to present three programs which, when used together, are unstoppable. They are called RipIt4Me, DVD Decrypter, and DVD Shrink. If you have ever encountered a movie that would not allow itself to be copied, use this technique. The result will surprise you. Even stubborn movies made from Song or Disney are no match for this triune of greatness.

Before I continue, I would like to throw out a disclaimer. I by no means recommend stealing films. Only in the event that you own the movie should you be copying it. Now, that having been said…lets get started.

1) Download: (search on Google for each of these, you can’t miss it!
-RipIt4Me
-DVD Decrypter
-DVD Shrink
2) Install each of the programs above
3) Place the movie you own into your DVD drive
4) Open RipIt4Me and follow the burning wizard. Be sure to check all boxes that remove protected content
-RipIt4Me works through DVD Decrypter
5) Once the output file is finished, RipIt4Me will automatically start DVD Shrink for you. From there you must simply click backup. After that, all you must do is burn the output file to disk.

Well, I’m afraid to say it but they most likely won’t without a little work. I hear that either MacTheRipper or DVDRemaster are great solutions for your mac, although I haven’t had a chance to test them. You are crafty, my guess is it would be worth popping over to the PC side of your MacBook for the cause.

Ok. Yeah, I spos I can always reboot on the Windows side for a bit, do some DVD ripping and switch back.

Regardless, it looks like you have a pretty sweet system in place for making it happen. Thanks for doing of the dirty work.

None of these programs work under Jaunty Jackalope. Can’t seem to find any DVD ripper that works for Linux! All I want to do is backup my Star Trek DVD collection to my computer. NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK! I have tried these programs, have installed all of the necessary apps under wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats and still cannot play or even copy an encripted DVD. Ripit4me doesn’t seem to be available anymore- because I suspect the Linux community is scared of lawsuits from those orgs trying to prevent any type of copy. Anyhelp would be appreciated. I am new to Linux.

John, Have you tried using wine? I understand that Wine will let you run windows programs in linux. This way you could use DVD Shrink with Ubuntu. I ran across a web site which might help: http://www.mrbass.org/linux/ubuntu/dvdshrink/. If nothing else works, I image it would be worth it to partition your harddrive and install Windows as well. Dual boot systems are perfect for this reason.
